On the Distribution of Round-Trip Delays in TCP/IP Networks

چکیده
TCP traffic round-trip delay measurements have been carried out in the Ericsson Corporate Network. Based on these data a comprehensive analysis has been performed to identify basic state changes in the network and to find the parametric distribution of the round-trip delay. The main finding of our research is that the roundtrip delay can be well approximated by a truncated normal distribution. A method for parameter setting with the statistical tests for validation is also presented. Finally, we discuss the possible explanations of this result.

Design of H Congestion Controller for TCP Networks Based on LMI Formulation
In this paper, a state feedback H¥ controller is proposed in order to design an active queue management (AQM) system based on congestion control algorithm for networks supporting TCP protocols. In this approach, the available link bandwidth is modeled as a time-variant disturbance. The purpose of this paper is to design a controller which is capable of achieving the queue size and can guarantee...
متن کاملQUANTA: Quality of Service Architecture for Native TCP/IP over ATM Networks
In this paper, we propose a Quality of Service (QoS) architecture, QUANTA, for an end system protocol suite. We use TCP(UDP)/IP over ATM as a testbed to develop the architecture. We measure the application-level QoS in terms of throughput, delay, round trip time, and loss to identify the base-line performance an application can expect from such an environment. From the no-load condition we meas...
متن کاملAn Analytical Evaluation of Autocorrelations in TCP Traffic
This paper addresses the problem of characterizing analytically the autocorrelation structure of TCP traffic. We show that, under simple models, a single TCP connection generates traffic with an exponentially decreasing autocorrelation function. However, several TCP connections sharing a given link can generate traffic with long term dependencies, under the condition that the distribution of th...
متن کاملThe Sensitivity of TCP to Sudden Delay Variations in Mobile Networks
This paper studies the impact of variable transmission delays on the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). Sudden delay variations, which are not uncommon in mobile networks, may degrade the performance since they may cause spurious TCP timeouts. The most important parameter in this context is the TCP retransmission timer. In this paper, we analyze TCP’s round-trip time estimation for bulk data ...
متن کاملStability Analysis of a Window-based Flow Control Mechanism for TCP Connections with Different Propagation Delays
A feedback-based congestion control mechanism is essential to realize an efficient best-effort service in highspeed networks. A window-based flow control mechanism called TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), a sort of feedbackbased congestion control mechanism, has been widely used in the current Internet. Recently, TCP Vegas has been proposed, which is another version of TCP mechanism, and ach...
